Kara Sowles is an Open Source Program Manager at GitHub, where she gets to focus full-time on supporting free and open source maintainers. She ran the first cohort of GitHub Accelerator, a funding program aimed at finding new paths to financial sustainability for projects. She co-organizes Maintainer Month (it’s in May) yearly, as well as GitHub’s Maintainer Community. In the past, she ran Community programs at Puppet Labs for many years. She resides in Portland, Oregon, and loves studying trash, archaeology, and animation.
