Kate Nicholl MLA

Kate Nicholl MLA is an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly for Belfast South and a former Lord Mayor of Belfast. She serves on the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Economy Committee and is the Alliance Party’s spokesperson on the economy.

Kate chairs several All‑Party Groups at the Assembly, including the All‑Party Group on Artificial Intelligence and the All‑Party Group on Policy and Public Data, as well as the APGs on Skills and International Development. Her work focuses on how economic policy and emerging technologies impact equality, human rights and fair access to opportunity – particularly in relation to work, skills, childcare and inclusive growth. She has a long‑standing interest in political reform and in ensuring public policy is shaped by evidence, transparency and participation.

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Belfast, Kate was educated at Methodist College Belfast and University College London, where she graduated with a BSc in Anthropology.
