Marc Strathie

Marc Strathie is a senior policy advisor for devolved nations at the Institute of Directors (IoD), a role he has held since 2024. He leads IoD’s policy work across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, developing policy positions and representing the views of directors and businesses to governments. He is also a member of the Scottish Government’s Ministerial Trade Board.

His recent work has covered business taxation, skills, economic growth, regulation, and intergovernmental relations, including between the UK and Scottish governments. His role at the IoD has also seen him appear before parliamentary committees. In March 2025, for example, Strathie emphasised the importance of regulatory certainty for businesses as part of a committee discussion on the UK Internal Market Act.

Prior to joining the IoD, Strathie was the stakeholder relationship lead at Innovate UK, the UK’s national innovation agency, where he organised external engagements for the No Limits programme, focused on creating the UK’s largest and most inclusive innovation community. He also spent several years at ScotlandIS, where he was head of research and policy and led engagement around digital infrastructure, connectivity, AI and technology policy. In this role, he also authored Scotland’s first Climate Tech report alongside Scottish Enterprise, and hosted The Herald’s Climate Conversations podcast.

Strathie graduated with a degree in history and political science from the University of Strathclyde and holds a Master’s in American foreign policy from the University of Edinburgh.
