Bio

Martin is the Vice President of Developer Relations at GitHub where he helps open source communities to create delightful things. He works to help projects be more sustainable through initiatives like GitHub Sponsors and via GitHub’s support of open source foundations.  He also helps to bring the next generation of students and their educators into the open source community.

Prior to that he was part of the team at Microsoft change how the company built software, by helping them change how they work with open source communities and how they talk with developers. He was the original creator of the Microsoft org on GitHub. While there he also helped set up the .NET Foundation bringing in the community along with a wide array of commercial companies like Amazon, Google, Samsung and RedHat to help drive the future direction of the open source .NET platform. 

Martin joined Microsoft after they acquired his small five person start-up that was building integrations around the open source and Java-based Eclipse platform.  He still lives and works from his home in rural Northern Ireland.
